Illegal Workers Found, Money Seized, in UKBA Cheltenham Raid

A UK Border Agency raid in Cheltenham has uncovered illegal workers and resulted in cash being seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Officers swooped on the Gourmet San takeaway, Bath Road, in response to information received and three illegal workers, all from China, were detained.

One 47 year old man was a failed asylum seeker, a 42 year old woman had entered the UK illegally, and a 39 year old woman had remained in the country after her visa had expired.

The two women remain in the country whilst outstanding immigration claims are processed, the man is due to be deported within 2 weeks. All three currently remain in immigration detention.

During the raid approximately £2,000 was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, and is being retained by UKBA pending further investigations.

"We will not tolerate illegal working which undercuts wages and can exploit vulnerable workers" said Jane Farleigh, regional director of UKBA in the South West.
